Learn more about the makers below:

ALISON TRISTRAM

Alison has a background in graphic design for commercial print. Whilst working within a graphics studio she developed her own textile practice through courses in embroidery and printmaking. The two disciplines of print and textile form the basis of all her work.

Alison works from her studio in Kington experimenting with the infinite possibilities of colour, texture and form. She uses a circular practice as print leads to stitch and stitch suggests further ideas for print.

She is drawn to pattern in the built environment, particularly modernist architecture, so her pieces lean towards a mid-century modern aesthetic. She is currently using block printing on natural fabrics, which she then hand sews to make characterful, wearable jewellery.

ANGELA SOULIER

Angela Soulier creates unique silver jewellery and objects and has pieces in collections world-wide. She often combines them with other elements such as stones, fabric, bone, horn or wood depending on the intention of the piece in hand; colour, movement and texture are important to her.

She has a background in costume in theatre, film and opera. Angela has lived in various countries but mainly Mexico where she learnt her craft with silversmiths from Taxco, a silver mining town, however, she is largely self-taught. Each project creates a new challenge, which she finds fascinating.

Angela’s pleasure is to see the jewellery she makes come to life when worn and appreciated.

ASHLEY DAVIES

Ashley is a lampwork glass artist who crafts each bead by hand in the heat of the torch, transforming molten glass into miniature works of art. Every bead becomes part of a unique jewellery piece, combining colour, light, and texture in wearable form.

During the Midsummer Makers Fair, Ashley will be demonstrating and sharing the fascinating process of shaping glass in fire and turning it into beautiful, handcrafted adornments.

BARNEY BRITNELL

Barney has always been drawn to creating things with wood. Particularly rustic and characterful objects that let the beauty of the wood shine with little alteration. He enjoys making items that not only showcase this but that have a useful function, too.

DELIA STEWART

Delia Stewart is the creative force behind Acanthus Glass, a studio rooted in the heart of South Shropshire. With formal training in stained glass, Delia has evolved her craft to focus primarily on kiln-formed glass, exploring the interplay of light, colour, and texture. Since relocating to the area two years ago, she has drawn deep inspiration from the natural beauty and serenity of the local landscape.

Her work is known for its rich textures—not only enhancing how light dances across the glass but also creating a tactile experience for those with visual impairments. This thoughtful approach reflects Delia’s commitment to inclusivity and sensory engagement in art. Each piece is a celebration of craftsmanship and connection to place.

Delia welcomes commissions and loves collaborating on bespoke projects that bring individual stories to life.

ELAINE FRASER-KING

With a background in studio ceramics, Elaine’s transition into silversmithing was something of an inevitability. Her fascination with the transformative power of fire and heat on clay carried naturally across into silver, seen in the use of reticulation, granulation, drop casting and fusing techniques in the creative process.

Her previous work with glazes now finds expression in the vibrant use of colour through semi-precious stones and upcycled elements such as sea glass, found pottery, vintage watch parts, chandelier crystals and rosaries.

She is especially drawn to the quirky and unique and finds that the combination of the materials and techniques that she predominantly uses, lend themselves very well to this aesthetic, enabling her to create truly one-of-a-kind pieces.

EMILY HOOPER-JARRETT

Emily cooks because she loves to cook.

Her influences come from the natural world, foraging, and what she grows in her garden. She is influenced by chefs on Instagram. Emily has been cooking for others since she was a teenager, and her experience includes festival catering; café work; yoga retreats and wellness courses; she is a personal chef to a client with chronic health issues with ever changing symptoms.

Most of her recipes are gluten free and she takes great delight that no-one can tell. Emily loves everything about making food and, even if her day has not gone well, she will always find joy in cooking; it is her escape and she is constantly thinking about it.

She is passionate about sharing the amazing things that are on offer in the Clun Valley; in the hedgerow and woodland, through foraging; meat that is being reared by our local farmers; fantastic produce that is being grown locally, including dairy; food that is ‘of the land and of the area’, and is of spectacularly good quality.

Emily loves making healthy, colourful and nutritious, sensory delights for us all to enjoy.

JANEY SHARRATT

Janey studied Environmental Design at Manchester College of Art before moving to London in the early 70’s. She worked as a designer for many years before teaching interior architecture at Kingston University, the Royal College of Art and Chelsea College of Art. Since 2000, she had focused increasingly on painting in her studio in Camberwell, London.

About ten years ago, having enjoyed painting many of the vessels she had collected, she began to explore the idea of actually fashioning some of the shapes and forms that meant something to her.

Although she loves canvas and directing the play of paint, she has discovered that the process of hand building her ceramic pieces has given her a new and different momentum.

An understanding of form, shape and pattern was essential to her in her life as a designer in London and, as she has now moved to Herefordshire, she is taking pleasure in the freedom she has to experiment with this medium in her new studio in the countryside.

Her mainly black and white pots and sculptural pieces are a very personal expression of her response to her surroundings, a method of self-expression and very satisfying new creative journey.

JEN HONOUR

Having spent her career as a Legal Secretary, Prison Officer and Social Worker, Jen Honour has finally settled for a quieter life. She now enjoys spending her time outdoors, observing wildlife and the natural world, which she reflects in her coloured pencil work.  In contrast, she also gains enormous pleasure by capturing the soul and character of much-loved pets, in her portraiture work.

KIM DAVIS

The simplicity of Kim’s vessel forms displays the grain and natural colour of the woods being used. His making is a response to the nature of the wood and is intuitive and emotional rather than prescriptive and defining; the form that emerges is a reaction to the wood being used. Although a vessel maker, his concern is with the form and surface, function becomes peripheral.

Kim’s products range from bud vases and lidded boxes to larger bowls, vases and platters, to large statement pieces, including natural edge pieces.

Primarily he likes to make shavings.

LISA DUKES

After a lifetime of being fascinated by Artisan pottery and ceramics and no formal training, Lisa now finds herself in the position where she can explore this passion more deeply. She enjoys making and playing, creating functional, cleanly shaped, stoneware vessels to be enjoyed and used every day in the home.

LUCI CLARK

Luci is a glass artist whose work is deeply rooted in the natural world. Following studying Landscape Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art, she discovered glass and its interplay with light, colour and the inherent luminescence of glass.

Working in both leaded and copper-foiled techniques, Luci combines traditional methods such as kiln-fired glass painting – practiced since medieval times – with more contemporary processes including acid etching, screen printing and sandblasting. Her pieces range from commissions for windows and medium scale hanging panels to delicately hand painted suncatchers, each one a celebration of the natural world.

MIKE PAINTER

Mike Painter is a Master Carver. He served his apprenticeship at Linford Bridgeman, an architectural and ecclesiastical company, specialising in the traditional crafts of wood and stone, where he became Head of Department. He continued his studies at the European School for Craftsmen at San Servolo, Venice in 1992.

Amongst other well-known properties, he has worked on Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, the Palace of Westminster and many National Trust buildings and churches. He also supervised a team of carvers to work on the fire damage at Windsor Castle.

Since retiring in 2021, he has been working on a relief carving in lime wood depicting Michelangelo's fresco "The Last Judgement" created in the Sistine Chapel, Vatican, Rome and we are thrilled that he has offered to show his own work at our Midsummer Makers Fair.

SARAH AMATT

Sarah creates images using the ancient process of suminagashi which is a Japanese marbling technique. Working with ink, water and air, her designs are captured on paper and washi. She works with sumi, which is black ink, and occasionally with colour. Sarah creates work in her studio but really enjoys the open air on rivers and the sea.
